Harry Maslen - the first Junior Ilkley Harrier to make it to the English Schools Championships
Harry's fantastic achievement at the ESAA Championships at Gateshead
can be seen on the video. Harry set a PB of 11.71 in the heats
of the U15 80m Hurdles, followed that up with 11.75 in the semi-finals
which by the smallest of margins was not quite good enough for
a place in the final. This performance ranks him 13th Nationally
and 3rd in Yorkshire in the Power of 10. Our juniors have the
opportunity to try all aspects of Track and Field Athletics.
See video
here. Thanks to Martyn Pearce for video.
Winners on the Fells
At a rain-lashed Hellifield Gala in August, Sarah Pickering
set a new U12 girls' course record to collect the magnificent
Yorkshire Champion trophy. Georgia Malir became
the U16 silver medallist at the English Junior Uphill Fell Championships
at Sedbergh in July and then went on to compete for England in September at
the Home Countries Championship Mountain Race where the team struck gold. There are many
opportunities for juniors to train on the fells and compete in
both FRA and BOFRA events throughout the year.
ClubMark
Some of the Sportshall Athletics coaches and juniors help celebrate the award
of ClubMark, after receiving their own individual Sportshall Athletics certificates
and medals at the March presentation evening.
Juniors from 8 to 15 years enjoy taking part in Sportshall Athletics each week and
some go on to attend regional trials and represent West or North
Yorkshire.
Cross Country
What a fantastic cross-country season we've just had.
Ilkley caters for cross-country runners of all ages and abilities
from organising the local Wharfedale primary schools XC League to
competing at club level at the PECO and Complete Runner Leagues
or at the annual Championship events.
Get out there and get muddy.
Love Relays!
Relays are great fun, whether it's on the fells or over the terrain.
In July we entered 7 teams at the Washburn Valley relays organised
by Otley AC. All our teams enjoyed themselves and we retained
the trophy.
